Azerbaijan-Serbia economic relations conferred


Shahin Mustafayev, the minister of economy, co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia met with the delegation led by Rasim Ljajic, the deputy prime minister, minister of commerce, tourism and telecommunication of Serbia being on a visit to our country.

During the visit, the Serbian delegation visited the grave of the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the Alley of Honors, and laid a wreath at the monument. Then the guests visited the Alley of Martyrs, commemorated the heroes who sacrificed their lives for independence and territorial integrity of our country.

During the meeting discussions were held on the prospects of economic cooperation and expansion of relations between the two countries.

The Minister Shahin Mustafayev underlined that the relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia based on the principles of mutual respect and trust, political and economic cooperation flourish. It was noted that our countries support each other within international organizations, as well as on the issue of territorial integrity. The Strategic Partnership Declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Serbia in 2013, the Joint Action Plan on Strategic Partnership signed during Serbian President's visit to Azerbaijan in May 2018 and the 5th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Serbia play an important role in expanding cooperation. Shahin Mustafayev emphasized that there were vast opportunities for development of cooperation between our countries in various fields of economy, including trade, investment, industry, energy, agriculture, transport, tourism and ICT, and shared his views on expanding these ties.

The deputy prime minister of the Republic of Serbia, co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, minister of commerce, tourism and telecommunication, R.Ljajic stressed his country’s keenness in expanding relations with Azerbaijan and spoke about the expansion of economic cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan. “Serbia is interested in development of cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, agriculture and so on,” added R.Ljajic.

Afterwards, Azerbaijan-Serbia business meeting was held with the support of the Ministry of Economy, the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) and the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia.

The meeting brought together officials, entrepreneurs operating in tourism, construction and other sectors of the economy, as well as representatives of tourism organizations from Serbia and Azerbaijan.


“Various events - business forums, business meetings and etc take place with participation of Azerbaijani and Serbian businessmen. Within the framework of the 5th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Serbian Intergovernmental Commission held in December this year, a round table was organized with the participation of businessmen and opportunities for expanding economic and trade relations were discussed. Azerbaijani entrepreneurs are interested in expanding cooperation with Serbian businessmen, and today's business meeting is a clear indication of this. So far, more than 30 documents have been signed between our countries, trade turnover rose by 36% in 2017, and 33% in January-September 2018. The relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia in the fields of infrastructure, energy, industry, transport, ICT and other areas are expedited,” mentioned the minister Shahin Mustafayev sharing his views on current cooperation and expansion of ties. It was noted that Azerbaijan and Serbia successfully cooperated in the field of infrastructure construction. Serbia can use transport and transit opportunities in Azerbaijan. The opportunities for cooperation in tourism, agriculture, ICT and other spheres are extensive.

Deputy prime minister of the Republic of Serbia, minister of trade, tourism and telecommunication Rasim Ljajic expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Azerbaijan and the organization of a business meeting with the participation of local businessmen. It was noted that the relations between our countries grow to the level of strategic partnership, and Serbia attached great importance to the expansion of economic and trade relations with our country. Noting the importance of the events organized by the business circles, Rasim Ljajic stressed that events with the participation of businessmen could be held in 2019 in Serbia as well. Speaking about the concessions on investment in Serbia, Rasim Ljajic invited Azerbaijani businessmen to invest in Serbia.
