The first pilot project currently being implemented within the framework of a public-private partnership is the production of drinking water by desalination of seawater. The project is planned to be implemented in the city of Sumgayit, taking into account factors such as water quality, the state of existing infrastructure, and the environment.
Taking into account economic factors and the potential for growth in the population's demand for drinking water, the project's production capacity is 300,000 cubic meters per day.
According to the results of the competition announced for the implementation of the seawater desalination plant project, the Consortium led by the Saudi Arabian company ACWA Power took first place. The 2nd and 3rd places in the competition were taken by the Israeli companies IDE Water Assets Ltd and the United Arab Emirates Metito Utilities Limited, respectively.
Discussions with the winner of the competition have been concluded, and coordination with relevant state agencies is currently underway to sign a public-private partnership agreement. The agreement will be signed between the winning company and the Azerbaijan State Water Reserves Agency.
