48th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Islamic Development Bank

The 48th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) was held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Our country was represented at the event by a delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev.

Current issues such as exploring opportunities for joint cooperation in the direction of eliminating the consequences of natural disasters in the member countries, developing human capital, building stable, green and sustainable infrastructure were discussed during the annual meeting.

Elnur Aliyev, the First Deputy Minister of Economy, in his meeting with the President of IDB, Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, within the framework of the event emphasized that cooperation with the Bank is highly valued in our country, and expressed his views on the expansion of partnership with IDB, cooperation in the restoration and reconstruction of our liberated territories, supporting SMEs, bank financing, energy and food security.

Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser said that Azerbaijan has made a great contribution to the Bank's activities, and our cooperation has a successful history. The president of the bank mentioned the importance of the implemented joint projects in terms of the development of the economy, including infrastructure, in Azerbaijan and said that the Bank is interested in the expansion of cooperation, especially in the projects to be implemented in the liberated territories of our country.

A meeting was also held with Hani Salem Sonbol, the CEO of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, and the CEO of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector. The parties discussed cooperation with ITFC in the direction of the development of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the role of the Corporation in strengthening the export potential of Azerbaijan and the application of Islamic finance, and considered the next joint steps to be taken in this direction.
