The Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani received the delegation led by the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov.
It was pointed out that Iraq is interested in strengthening relations with Azerbaijan. It was stated that Azerbaijan-Iraq relations developed on the basis of friendly relations established by the joint efforts of the heads of state of both countries.
Trade, investment, tourism, transport, as well as partnership cooperation in important areas for the two countries were discussed at the reception. Opinions were exchanged on the current state of Azerbaijan-Iraq economic relations and development priorities. The importance of expanding bilateral trade turnover and increasing mutual investments was emphasized.
The delegation led by the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov met with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghani of Iraq.
It was stated that there is a favorable ground for the expansion of Azerbaijan-Iraq partnership along various vectors. Energy cooperation occupies an important place in the development of economic relations between our countries. The potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in this field was brought to attention.
The delegation informed about the works done in the field of decarbonization and energy transition. It was noted that the declaration of 2024 in Azerbaijan as the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" and our country's hosting of the COP29 event will increase national contributions to the energy transition process.
Views were exchanged at the meeting on Azerbaijan's goals in the transition to "green" energy, projects implemented by SOCAR with partners in this direction, and opportunities for cooperation on energy issues.
A delegation led by the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov met with the Minister of Trade of Iraq Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairy.
The reforms carried out in the direction of sustainable economic development of Azerbaijan and improvement of the business environment were brought to attention. It was reported that 160 Iraqi-invested commercial institutions operate in various fields of economy in our country. It was noted that non-oil and gas products dominated exports from our country to Iraq last year. Products with potential for export to the Iraqi market and wide logistical possibilities were taken into account.
It was informed that there are fertile conditions for bringing the trade relations between the two countries to the desired level. The parties stated that they are interested in the diversification of economic and commercial relations, and the importance of organizing mutual visits of business circles.
Issues related to strengthening cooperation between the business circles of our countries, joint action on infrastructure projects and holding the Azerbaijan-Iraq business forum were discussed at the meeting. Iraqi businessmen were invited to visit our country in order to evaluate business and export opportunities in Azerbaijan.
