Issues of partnership development were discussed and a number of documents were signed at the 4th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation during the meeting of Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov with the St. Petersburg delegation visiting our country.
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Alexander Beglov, the governor of St. Petersburg, Russia. It was emphasized at the meeting that regional cooperation, including bilateral economic activity, was strengthened as a result of the great importance of the heads of state of Azerbaijan and Russia to sustainable development and effective use of economic potential.
It was reported that Azerbaijan's partnership with the regions of Russia, including St. Petersburg, is expanding. The activity of the Intergovernmental Commission on economic and humanitarian cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation gives additional impetus to the development of mutual relations.
The parties discussed the prospects of economic relations, opportunities for joint activities in industry, innovation, tourism, shipbuilding and other fields, and evaluated the existing potential for supporting trade and business cooperation.
The 4th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on economic and humanitarian cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation was held within the cultural and business mission of the St. Petersburg delegation to Azerbaijan. The meeting expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive development of economic relations. It was pointed out that there is a continuous increase in the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia. The trade turnover with Russia increased by 17% in 2023 compared to 2022 and was close to 4.5 billion dollars. As well as Azerbaijan has established important relations with about 80 subjects of Russia in the field of economy and trade, documents on mutual activity have been signed with about 20 subjects.
Information was provided at the event on the business opportunities of our country, and it was noted that there are great prospects for cooperation in industry, trade, transport-transit and other fields. The concessions and incentives offered in the industrial zones and the Alat Free Economic Zone, as well as the opportunities to participate in the reconstruction and restoration works carried out in our territories liberated from occupation, were reported.
The commission members shared their views on increasing the effectiveness of mutual activity, deepening partnership in transport, innovation and other fields, and strengthening cooperation between business representatives. Discussions were held within the framework of the meeting on strengthening joint activities in priority areas, including pharmacy, tourism, healthcare, labor and population employment, education and other areas.
A video dedicated to cooperation between Azerbaijan and St. Petersburg in economic, trade, humanitarian, tourism and other fields was shown at the event.
The "Action Plan on cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of St. Petersburg of the Russian Federation in trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural fields in 2024-2028" was approved at the meeting. The document was signed by Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov. The Action Plan will support partnerships in trade, environmental security, health, employment and social protection, humanitarian, urban development and architecture.
Documents on mutual understanding and cooperation were signed within the framework of the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, between Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management and St. Petersburg International Competence Center in the field of Tourism and Hospitality, Azerbaijan Health and Thermal Tourism Support Association and St. Petersburg Medical Tourism Agency.
