At the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission with Turkmenistan, discussions were held on cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, transport, industry, business, agriculture and other areas, as well as opportunities for promoting mutual investments.
The 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was held in Baku.
At the meeting, Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized that the relations between the two countries are based on strong historical foundations, cultural closeness, and mutual respect between the two brotherly nations. It was noted that the high level of trust and mutual understanding between our heads of state plays a particularly important role in strengthening cooperation. Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are implementing major joint projects and initiatives. There is a broad partnership agenda between our countries covering key areas such as economy, trade, energy, transport, and humanitarian relations.
The potential for strengthening investment cooperation with Turkmenistan was highlighted. It was noted that 75 Turkmenistan-invested companies are operating in Azerbaijan in sectors such as industry, transport, construction, trade, and services.
Our countries have great potential for expanding cooperation in the field of energy. Azerbaijan, with its well-developed infrastructure for energy export, is ready to discuss mutually beneficial cooperation mechanisms.
Cooperation with Turkmenistan on revitalizing the East–West transport corridor and enhancing the efficiency of the Middle Corridor also plays a key role. In recent years, transit cargo volumes between our countries have shown steady growth. According to last year’s results, this figure exceeded 2 million tons, and in the first half of this year alone, it has already surpassed 1 million tons.
Opportunities for strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the fields of trade, energy, industrial parks, transport, business, agriculture, and the Alat Free Economic Zone were highlighted.
The meeting provided information on Azerbaijan's growing economic indicators, favorable business and investment climate, transport and logistics infrastructure opportunities, and the prospects of the Zangazur Corridor. The importance of expanding ties between business communities was emphasized, and Turkmen investors were invited to engage in active cooperation.
Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Nokerguli Ataguliyev, emphasized the broad prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields and shared his views on the directions for the development of this partnership.
At the event, discussions were held on the prospects for joint activities in various fields and initiatives serving common interests in the economic sphere.
At the end of the meeting, a protocol was signed based on the outcomes of the 8th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. The document was signed by the co-chairs of the Commission — Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, and Nokerguli Ataguliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. The protocol envisions the expansion of partnership in areas such as economic and trade relations, energy, transport, agriculture, and other sectors.
