Panel session held on topic “Enhancing the Potential of Agriculture and the Food Industry Through Higher Education”

A panel session was held within the framework of the First Azerbaijan International Investment Forum on the topic of “Enhancing the Potential of Agriculture and the Food Industry Through Higher Education.” During the session, discussions were held on the contributions of science and education, as well as scientific research, to the development of agriculture and the food industry, along with mechanisms of state support for this sector in Azerbaijan.

On the second day of the First Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, a fireside chat was held with head coach of the “Qarabağ” football club and honored coach Gurban Gurbanov, moderated by Haya Obeydat, a journalist from CBC Sport TV. The coach shared his thoughts on his life journey and leadership philosophy, emphasizing that the key to success lies in hard work. He also responded to questions regarding the development of football as a business.

Later, within the forum, a panel session titled “Enhancing the Development Potential of Agriculture and the Food Industry Through Higher Education” was held. Moderated by Guy Shone, Chief Editor of AnewZ TV, the session featured a speech by Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov, who expressed his belief that the First Azerbaijan International Investment Forum would contribute to the local business community. He noted that Azerbaijan possesses a favorable climate and fertile lands for agricultural development. In recent years, the country’s exports of food and vegetables have significantly increased. Information was provided about state support mechanisms for farmers, especially in the liberated territories. The importance of education and research in the development of agriculture was emphasized.

Balázs Hendrik, Head of the Representation of the Organization of Turkic States in Hungary and Director of the OTS Institute for Drought Prevention, highlighted the importance of expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation for forming value chains. He stated that pilot projects in agriculture must be based on research. He also addressed the issue of drought, which has hindered the development of the agricultural sector in recent years.

Zakiya Mustafayeva, Deputy Chair of the Food Safety Agency (AQTA), provided information on the Agency’s work in protecting human, animal, and plant health, the measures carried out under food safety programs, and scientific achievements in this field.

During the panel session:

  • Alius Antilis, CEO of Carlsberg Azerbaijan, spoke about the company’s activities and its localization process in Azerbaijan;
  • Nasib Islamzade, CEO of Azersheker LLC, shared his experiences in supply chain development;
  • Niyazi Amirbayov, CEO of AgroDairy LLC, discussed the importance of sustainable ecosystems, forecasting related to unfavorable climate conditions, expansion of transit opportunities through the Middle Corridor, and result-oriented investment support.

Panel participants discussed:

  • Efficient use of water resources;
  • Leveraging technology and education to enhance agricultural potential;
  • Expanding partnerships with the academic community.

The importance of the public-private sector cooperation in this field was emphasized, especially the support for investors operating in the liberated territories.
