An international scientific conference titled “Recycling Economy and Sustainability Policy”, dedicated to the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in Azerbaijan, has been held.
The event was organized at the Economic Research Institute under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, Mingachevir State University, the Economic Research Scientific Institute under the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Türkiye’s Institute of Economic Development and Social Research (IKSAD), Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, and Istanbul Gelişim University.
The Chairman of the Board of the Economic Research Institute, Professor Shahin Sadiqov, emphasized that recycling economy and sustainability policies are an integral part of modern economic development. He highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation, sharing best practices, and implementing joint initiatives in this field.
Anar Eminov, Rector of Mingachevir State University, underlined the importance of the conference in enhancing international cooperation. He noted that recycling economy and green growth are at the core of global challenges. It was emphasized that recycling policies, as one of the key priorities of sustainable development, make significant contributions to ensuring environmental safety and efficient use of resources.
During the conference, Professor Yadulla Hasanli, Director of the Economic Research Scientific Institute of UNEC; Professor Durmuş Çağrı Yıldırım from Türkiye’s Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University; Professor Salih Öztürk, Chair of the Scientific Committee of IKSAD; and Başak Özarslan Doğan, Director of the “Center for Applied and Research on Sustainable Environment and Society” at Istanbul Gelişim University, shared their insights on the growing global importance of recycling, the application of innovative approaches in waste management, and the role of education and research in shaping the green economy model.
Parallel live and online sessions were held across five panels, featuring presentations and discussions on topics such as plastic waste management, circular economy, renewable energy consumption, sustainable economic development, and innovative waste recycling technologies. Researchers exchanged ideas and engaged in academic debates.
On the second day, sessions continued at Mingachevir State University (MSU) in hybrid format. Alongside Azerbaijani participants, scholars and researchers from leading Turkish universities and research institutes, as well as MSU staff, delivered presentations.
The discussions focused on modern challenges of the recycling economy, the green growth model, sustainability policy, environmental safety, and innovative approaches to socio-economic development. Presenters shared their research findings on alternative energy, waste management, and the application of circular economy principles amid global climate change.
In total, over 100 researchers submitted theses and articles for the conference. The collected works in Azerbaijani, Turkish, and English will be published both as a book and in the international journal “Journal of Recycling Economy & Sustainability Policy (RESP)” on October 25, 2025.
