First meeting of Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Business Council held

The inaugural meeting of the Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Business Council took place in Doha, where discussions were held on expanding the economic and trade relations, developing cooperation between business communities, and the future activities of the Council.

Within the framework of the 4th meeting of the Joint Economic, Trade and Technical Commission between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the State of Qatar, the first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Business Council was held in Doha.

The event was co-organized by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Speeches were delivered by the co-chairs of the Joint Commission – Azerbaijan’s Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov and Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed; First Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Elnur Aliyev; First Vice-Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Twar; and the co-chairs of the Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Business Council – Chairman of the SMBDA Board Orkhan Mammadov and Member of the Board of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammed bin Towar Al Kuwari (Mohammed bin Jawhar Al Mohammed).

The meeting addressed the Azerbaijan-Qatar economic and trade relations, prospects for expanding cooperation, and opportunities for implementing joint projects and initiatives with the participation of business circles. Confidence was expressed that the Joint Business Council will serve as an effective platform for realizing investment projects and deepening partnerships among SMEs. New areas of partnership and the Council’s planned activities in the coming period were also discussed.

During the meeting, presentations were delivered by the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency (AZPROMO), the authorized body of the Alat Free Economic Zone, the Investment Promotion Agency of Qatar, and “Qatar Tourism” on business and investment opportunities in Azerbaijan and Qatar, as well as on the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone.

Nearly 50 businesspeople from both countries participated in the Business Council meeting. Azerbaijani and Qatari entrepreneurs provided information about their companies and exchanged views on cooperation opportunities.

As part of the event, B2B meetings were held between the business representatives.
