The expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries, the development of trade and investment relations, and new partnership opportunities between business communities were discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy and Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, as well as at the Azerbaijan-Slovakia Business Forum held in Baku. A cooperation document was signed.
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov has met with Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova.
During the meeting, the development of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Slovakia, the contribution of high-level contacts and economic dialogue to expanding the bilateral cooperation, as well as the importance of mutual initiatives in this direction were emphasized.
The sides discussed opportunities for actively supporting the business and trade relations, diversifying energy supplies, and promoting joint activities and investments in industry, tourism, and digitalization.
The Azerbaijan-Slovakia Business Forum was held in Baku with the support of the Ministries of Economy of Azerbaijan and Slovakia and jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO and the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO). The event was attended by officials from both countries and representatives of nearly 100 companies operating in industry, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, ICT, tourism, transport, logistics, healthcare, real estate, and other sectors.
Addressing the Business Forum, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov said that the strategic partnership between the two countries provides a solid foundation for the development of the economic ties. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s growing role in strengthening Europe’s energy security, favorable business environment, transport and logistics capabilities, as well as incentives offered to investors, are opening up new opportunities for cooperation.
Information was provided on the opportunities created for investors in Azerbaijan. It was emphasized that there is significant potential for expanding cooperation in trade, investment, industry, energy, digital technologies, agriculture, tourism, and other sectors, promoting joint production, and implementing new investment projects. It was noted that the laying of the foundation of the Milan Rastislav Štefánik 840-student secondary school in Bash Garvand village in Aghdam, with the participation of the heads of state of both countries, and the implementation of the “Smart Village” project in the same village are successful examples of cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Slovak side for its contribution to the restoration of Karabakh and said he was confident that the Forum would contribute to establishing new business ties, increasing mutual investments, and developing the economic cooperation.
Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova emphasized that her country is interested in developing economic relations with Azerbaijan. It was noted that increasing direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries, assessing mutual investment opportunities, and expanding effective cooperation in priority areas could contribute to further strengthening the bilateral economic relations.
Speaking at the forum, AZPROMO Executive Director Yusif Abdullayev and SARIO Director of the Department of Foreign Trade Daniel Ondruš emphasized that cooperation between the two institutions continues in promoting exports and investments, supporting business dialogue, and establishing contacts between companies. It was noted that the Forum serves as a practical platform for forming new partnerships by bringing together companies and institutions representing various sectors from both countries.
At the event, Slovak colleagues were invited to participate in the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan in September this year.
As part of the event, a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at developing cooperation between the Azerbaijan Tourism Board and the national tourism organization “Slovakia Travel” was signed.
Presentations on the business and investment opportunities of Azerbaijan and Slovakia were delivered at the forum.
The business forum continued with B2B meetings.
