Headquarters of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) established in 1992 are located in Berne. SECO is operational in 24 countries. SECO Director is Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleische since 1 April 2011.
SECO's mission is to plan and implement economic and commercial criteria for emerging economies in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as well as new members of the European Union.
Cooperation between SECO and Azerbaijan was established in the mid-1990s. Bilateral technical and financial cooperation projects have been implemented since 1998. SECO's program on Azerbaijan covers infrastructure, private sector development, policy advice and capacity building.
In total, the Swiss Government allocated about $ 92,1 million in grants and technical assistance to Azerbaijan. So far, more than 64 projects have been completed in Azerbaijan, including regional projects. Currently, 7 projects financing by SECO are underway.
