Expansion of economic relations with Russia discussed

Current issues of economic and trade cooperation were discussed at the meeting between Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov and Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov.

Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Maxim Reshetnikov, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches importance to the development of economic relations with Russia. It was pointed out that more than 260 documents signed between our countries created a solid legal basis for multidirectional expansion of our relations. It was reported that the trade turnover with Russia, which is Azerbaijan's largest partner in non-oil exports, is increasing dynamically. In 2023, the volume of trade turnover with Russia amounted to approximately 4.5 billion US dollars. Trade turnover with the neighboring country increased by 17 percent last year compared to 2022. The partnership relations of the business circles of our countries are also expanding against the background of the strengthening of economic relations with Russia. Realization of the existing economic cooperation potential can increase the volume of trade turnover.

It was noted that the Azerbaijan-Russia and Russia-Azerbaijani business councils are an important platform for building mutually beneficial cooperation between business circles. The inclusive business environment created in our country has been reported. It was noted that entrepreneurs can take advantage of the business opportunities offered in our industrial zones, Alat free economic zone, freed from occupation areas. It was pointed out that there is great potential for the development of partnership with Russia in trade, transport, industry, tourism, environmental protection, agriculture, customs and other areas.

The Minister of Economic Development of Russia, Maxim Reshetnikov, positively assessed indicators of effective cooperation with Azerbaijan in various fields of economy, including the increasing trend of mutual trade, joint production and other fields. It was emphasized that joint projects on the non-oil industry are successfully implemented. It was noted that regular meetings and events between the delegations play an important role in strengthening relations. Maxim Reshetnikov shared his thoughts on the possibilities of developing partnership and initiatives in this field.

Opinions were exchanged during the meeting on the implementation of the Road Map on the main directions of the development of Azerbaijan-Russia cooperation. The parties discussed trade, transport, strengthening relations between business circles, defining new areas for cooperation and other issues.
