Expansion of cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development discussed

Within the framework of COP29, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov held discussions with Jürgen Rigterink, the First Vice-President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The meeting focused on projects aimed at promoting the green economy, cooperation in transitioning to low-carbon solutions, and initiatives for strengthening public-private partnerships.

At the meeting, Azerbaijan's role as the host of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), its active participation in global climate action, and its successful partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) across various areas were highlighted. It was noted that promoting the green economy holds a significant place in the country’s socio-economic development goals. During the discussions, steps to be taken in collaboration with the Bank to strengthen joint efforts in green economy promotion, utilization of renewable and alternative energy sources, support for public-private partnerships, and implementation of infrastructure and other projects were reviewed. The importance of diversifying cooperation in the energy sector towards low-carbon solutions was emphasized. Additionally, the prospects of platforms under COP29 to foster the Azerbaijan-EBRD partnership were discussed.

Jürgen Rigterink, the First Vice-President of the EBRD, highlighted the Bank’s productive cooperation with Azerbaijan and the significance of events held as part of COP29. He underlined that Azerbaijan's substantial economic potential creates prospects for expanding relations and affirmed the institution's continued support for the country.

The parties exchanged views on the benefits of the Azerbaijan-EBRD relations for sustainable development and effective climate action, as well as the prospects of joint projects.
