Cooperation development within Islamic Development Bank discussed in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

First Deputy Minister of Economy, Elnur Aliyev, met with the President of the Islamic Development Bank, Mohammed Sulaiman Al Jasser, and Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance, Osman Chelik, during his visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also participated in the Bank's "Directors' Meeting."

During his visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, First Deputy Minister of Economy, Elnur Aliyev, held several meetings. In discussions with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Mohammed Sulaiman Al Jasser, and Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance, Osman Chelik, issues of mutual interest were addressed.

At the Islamic Development Bank's (IsDB) "Board of Governors' Meeting" in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, discussions were held on the development of the Bank's strategic framework document for the next 10 years (2026–2035). The meeting also included an exchange of views on the institution's priorities and directions, as well as the development needs of its member countries.

First Deputy Minister of Economy, Elnur Aliyev, emphasized Azerbaijan's productive cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and highly valued the Bank's support for the projects implemented in the country.

During COP29 held in Baku, the significance of the partnership agreement signed with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for the construction of the "Main Irrigation Canal from Giz Galasi Reservoir" in Azerbaijan's liberated territories was specifically highlighted. It was emphasized that the construction of the irrigation canal represents the first project in the liberated areas financed by international financial institutions.

The framework document emphasized the importance of addressing the reconstruction and recovery needs of the respective member countries, as well as tackling issues such as drought alleviation in climate-sensitive regions. It highlighted the significance of investing in large-scale infrastructure projects such as transport corridors and energy networks, along with the importance of green infrastructure projects and digital transformation initiatives that align with global sustainability goals.

The event highlighted the Bank's commitment to innovative activities and inclusivity. Discussions were held on strengthening its position as a reliable partner and aligning its operational directions with the development priorities of member countries. Additionally, the importance of promoting the implementation of international projects among member countries with the support of the Islamic Development Bank was emphasized.
