At the Strategic Prioritization Seminar held in Baku between the UN and Azerbaijan, discussions were held on the development of the new Cooperation Framework Document on Sustainable Development for 2026–2030.

The Strategic Prioritization Seminar on the development of the new Cooperation Framework Document on Sustainable Development for 2026–2030 was held in Baku between the UN and Azerbaijan.

At the event, Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli delivered a speech highlighting Azerbaijan's close cooperation with the UN and its active support for global initiatives. It was noted that Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 has elevated these relations to a new level. By adopting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Azerbaijan has aligned over 50 state programs and strategies with the SDGs and has already submitted its 4th Voluntary National Review to the UN High-Level Political Forum.

The Framework Document for 2021–2025, which will be completed this year, covers four key priorities: inclusive growth, strong institutions, environmental protection, and gender equality. Numerous projects have been implemented jointly with the UN in these areas. It has been proposed that the new Framework Document include initiatives related to the implementation of climate actions announced during COP29, sustainable development projects for the reintegration of liberated territories, the inclusion of the 18th SDG, as well as cooperation in mine safety, economic diversification, export promotion, innovation initiatives, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the digital economy.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev delivered a speech, emphasizing that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to cooperation with the UN. He noted that Azerbaijan is ready to collaborate for the successful implementation of the new Framework Document. It was highlighted that Azerbaijan is one of the countries most affected by landmine contamination globally. The importance of promoting the 18th Sustainable Development Goal as an initiative to ensure safe living conditions in the liberated territories was underlined.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreyeva, stated that the UN supports the projects implemented by Azerbaijan for sustainable development. She emphasized that the strategic directions of the new Framework Document align with the UN’s priorities, including contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Azerbaijan, as well as the priorities related to achieving the 18th SDG on mine clearance.

Within the framework of the seminar, presentations were made on Azerbaijan’s Sustainable Development Priorities for the Next 5 Years Towards 2030, the initiatives put forward by the COP29 Presidency, and the key challenges arising from the UN Common Country Analysis.

The seminar continued with group presentations and plenary discussions.
