Event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide held Ministry of Economy

The Khojaly massacre is among the most horrific crimes committed against humanity.

A commemoration event was held at the Ministry of Economy in connection with the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. Employees of the Ministry of Economy and its affiliated institutions participated in the event. During the commemoration, the precious memory of the victims of the genocide and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was honored with a moment of silence.

At the event, Nizami Safarov, an expert on international law, member of parliament, and doctor of law, shared his thoughts on the political and legal aspects of the genocide. He stated that during the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, Armenia repeatedly committed genocide against the civilian population. It was emphasized that the most horrific of these crimes, in terms of scale and severity, was the Khojaly genocide. Due to its grave consequences, the Khojaly genocide ranks alongside the most horrific crimes against humanity of the 20th century. The recognition of the Khojaly genocide worldwide became possible after the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power. The violations of international law committed by Armenia during the conflict lead to both state and individual responsibilities under international law. The perpetrators of this crime, by receiving the punishment established by international law, would not only serve justice but also set an effective precedent aimed at preventing similar crimes.

The Deputy Minister of Economy, Sahib Alakbarov, emphasized that the Azerbaijani people have never reconciled with this genocide and the occupation of our lands. The Azerbaijani state, Azerbaijanis living abroad, several public organizations, and especially the Heydar Aliyev Foundation have made great efforts to promote the recognition of the Khojaly genocide to the world, and these efforts continue. Several countries worldwide have recognized the Khojaly genocide at both the state and parliamentary levels. Today, we can proudly say that the revenge for the victims of Khojaly, our soldiers martyred in the First and Second Karabakh Wars, and in the anti-terror operation, was taken on the battlefield. The victory gained under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, and the bravery of our glorious Army, with the waving of the Azerbaijani flag in Khojaly, once again demonstrates that the blood of the victims of the genocide did not go in vain. It was mentioned that last year, the head of state commemorated the victims of the genocide in Khojaly, and to immortalize their memory, the foundation of a memorial complex was laid there, together with the people of Khojaly.

At the event, a film about the Khojaly genocide was screened.
