Panel session, dedicated to development of small and medium-sized businesses, held

Within the framework of the First Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, a panel session was organized to discuss strengthening small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in order to create a sustainable and inclusive investment environment.

As part of the First Azerbaijan International Investment Forum held in Baku under the auspices of President Ilham Aliyev, a panel session titled “Strengthening Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (SMBs) to Create a Sustainable and Inclusive Investment Environment” was held.

Moderated by Elnur Aliyev, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (SMBDA) under the Ministry of Economy, the panel featured Manuela Traldi, President of the Italy-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce, who spoke about the strategic importance of SMB representatives in implementing inclusive investment strategies. She discussed the role of trade missions, business forums, seminars, and other business meetings between countries in strengthening SMBs.

Zibar Huseynova, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan-Britain Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the importance of SMBs in the application of innovations and ensuring economic resilience, and outlined key investment trends shaping their future.

Afat Ahmadova, founder of the brand “ZIRA Natural & Gourmet,” shared her views on the main challenges faced by SMBs in Azerbaijan and on strengthening the business activities of women and young entrepreneurs.

Sanan Shabanov, Senior Specialist for Private Sector Development at the Asian Development Bank’s Azerbaijan representation, stated that the Bank supports private sector development, especially SMBs, by providing loans through local banks. Special emphasis was placed on the activities of women entrepreneurs. It was noted that innovative financial instruments are being developed to foster growth in new technology sectors.

Participants exchanged views on the opportunities created for SMB development and the tasks ahead.
