Cooperation issues related to COP29 were discussed at the meeting held at the Ministry of Economy with the Director of International Climate Finance and Strategy of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero of Great Britain.
Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov met with Matty Toomb, Director of International Climate Finance and Strategy of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero of Great Britain.
The Deputy Minister of Economy emphasized that the economic relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are developing in an upward direction. It was mentioned that the declaration of 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for the Green World" in our country by the relevant Decree of the head of state is an indication of the importance Azerbaijan attaches to the solution of human problems, in addition to stimulating initiatives towards the transition to a "green" economy. Large projects are being implemented in order to efficiently use renewable energy sources in accordance with the National Priority of turning Azerbaijan into a clean environment and "green growth" country. In addition, our territories liberated from occupation and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic have been declared a "green energy zone" and work is being done in this direction.
It was reported that the COP29, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan, can serve as an important platform for promoting the 18th National Sustainable Development Goal project in the international community, in addition to issues of climate change and energy security, as well as demining activities proposed by the head of state Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
Matty Toombs emphasized that the measures implemented in the direction of promoting "green" energy and reducing the effects of global climate change in our country are highly appreciated, and expressed the willingness of the United Kingdom to share its experience with regard to the COP.
