An event dedicated to the UN Day and the 5th Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Dialogue was held at ADA University. Government officials, UN representatives, civil society, and private sector representatives attended the event.
Bahar Muradova, the chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women, and Children's Problems, expressed her views on the work done to increase social well-being in Azerbaijan and the issues of effective partnership with international institutions.
Deputy Minister of Economy Samad Bashirli stressed that effective measures are being taken against climate change and its negative effects in Azerbaijan, and purposeful measures are being implemented toward the green transition. It was noted that the hosting of COP29, a prestigious event of the UN, is the next indicator of the trust in Azerbaijan in the international world, and this event opens a new chapter in our cooperation with the UN. Today's event will also contribute to discussions within COP29.Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and chief negotiator of COP29, made a speech about the multilateral relations of our country with international organizations, including the UN, and the importance of the multi-vector global mission of the UN.
Vladanka Andreyeva, the resident coordinator of the UN in Azerbaijan, emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation to cope with global challenges. It was pointed out that COP29 is an important moment for climate agenda and globalization issues. It was brought to attention that the UN will expand its support to Azerbaijan's climate initiatives together with all its partners.
Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov pointed out the importance of coordinated responses to climate change in the world and the importance of strengthening joint initiatives for this purpose.
Sadig Gurbanov, the chairman of the Natural resources, energy and ecology committee of the Milli Majlis, shared his views on the measures implemented in the country against the effects of climate change, international cooperation and exchange of experience in this field, and green transition issues.
ADA University vice-rector Fariz Ismayilzade expressed his views on the importance of the values of peace, justice and cooperation represented by the UN and dedicating the event to an important topic.
Elnur Soltanov, Deputy Minister of Energy and Chief Executive Officer of COP29, delivered a report at the forum, on "The main features of Azerbaijan's contributions determined at the national level and the additional benefits of the long-term climate strategy for development."
İnformation was given in the panel on "Expansion of climate action in Azerbaijan", about the policy implemented in the country against the consequences of climate change, discussions were held, and questions were answered.
