Global “Green Growth Portal”, developed in cooperation with Ministry of Economy and Harvard University, presented within COP29

Within the framework of COP29, the Green Growth Portal, developed as part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Harvard University’s Growth Lab International Development Center, has been presented.

As part of COP29 in Baku, the global Green Growth Portal, developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Harvard University’s Growth Lab International Development Center, was presented.

Addressing the event, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov highlighted the importance of the portal in the global cooperation to achieve sustainable development. It was noted that through this initiative, green transition strategies in the economy will be based on fundamental research. It was underscored that the Green Growth Portal will help the global energy transition actors determine the green development opportunities of each country and benefit from them.

Vice-President of SOCAR Kanan Najafov emphasized that the company has adopted the net zero target. Information was provided on the work done in decarbonization, energy transition and the adoption of low-carbon solutions. It was noted that the new portal will also contribute to SOCAR’s energy transformation.

Founder and Director of Harvard University’s Growth Lab International Development Center Ricardo Hausmann’s video message was heard. The crucial role of reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy in combating global climate change was emphasized. It was noted that the Green Growth Portal aims to maximize the economic benefits of the green transition through green technology supply chains and systematizing technological solutions.

Timothy Cheston, the Senior Research Manager at the Growth Lab International Development Center, provided information on the Green Growth Portal. It is planned to integrate the online portal into Harvard University’s Atlas of Economic Complexity, envisaging 250 countries and economic regions, as well as 1.7 million users. It will feature analyses and comparative data prepared on the basis of information from international organizations and various countries.

The project is planned to become fully operational in 2025. Use of the portal will be free of charge.

Discussions were held, and questions were answered at the event with the participation of representatives from the state, private sector, international organizations, business associations, academic circles and financial institutions.
