Financing of the Sustainable Development Goals and upcoming goals in this direction were discussed.
Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov met with Ms. Luciana Aguiar, Manager in the Sustainable Finance Hub of the Istanbul Regional Office at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, and Nuno Queiros, the acting resident representative of UNDP in Azerbaijan.
It was emphasized at the meeting that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the relations with the UN and its institutions and the implementation status of the Sustainable Development Goals, the economy of Azerbaijan, and the work done in the direction of the restoration of territories liberated from occupation were reported.
It was noted that Azerbaijan is among the countries most contaminated with landmines and unexploded military ammunition in the world. The 18th Sustainable Development Goal entitled "Actions to Combat the Threat of Mines " was prepared and presented to the international community based on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev. The 18th SDG includes actions to combat the threat of mines for safe return, resettlement, rehabilitation, prosperity and peace to our liberated territories. This SDG is aimed at people living in a clean environment, healthy and high welfare, including peace and security.
Views were exchanged at the meeting on the financing of the SDGs and the upcoming goals in this direction.
