A tax convention was signed and prospects for cooperation were discussed in a meeting with Andrew Auerbach, Thomas Balco and Sarah Shurmur, representatives of the Center for Tax Policy and Administration of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Andrew Auerbach, Tomas Balco and Sarah Shurmur, representatives of the Tax Policy and Administration Center of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Successful cooperation between the OECD and our country was mentioned at the meeting, and the fulfillment level of the obligations arising from the multilateral conventions regulating tax issues, which Azerbaijan has joined within the framework of the OECD, was once again emphasized. Discussions were also held on the importance of Azerbaijan joining the Inclusive Framework of the "Tax Base Erosion and Profit Shifting" (BEPS) project as a member, as well as the benefits to be gained from this platform and prospective directions of action. Evaluations of possible technical assistance were carried out by the OECD in order to ensure that the tax legislation and administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan are adapted to the international standards resulting from the 15 activities of BEPS and also from the Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 (GloBE rules) projects, and to solve the tax issues arising from the digitalization of the economy.
The "Multilateral Convention on Implementation of Tax Agreement Measures to Prevent Tax Base Erosion and Profit Shifting" (MLI) was signed as a result of the meeting. However, Azerbaijan has shown its intention to contribute to the process of preventing tax evasion at the global level by supporting the Convention, which has been joined by more than 100 countries.
